Unto Darkness was the final assignment of my Immersive Game Level Design unit. It was worked on by myself and 3 other university students. It's the project I have the highest regard for, and have thought about remaking it frequently.

Unto Darkness follows the story of a bold thief whose target is the kingdom's royal palace. In the palace he finds a sealed off door with enticing looking runic patterns scaattered on it. Expecting lucrative magical items inside, the thief breaks in and descends the spiral staircase found inside. However, after unlocking the door at the bottom and passing through, the door shuts behind him, locking him out. The thief now finds himself in a dark, desecrated labrynth, with only his dwindling torch. And it doesn't seem like he's alone.

In Unto Darkness, I came up with the initial game concept of the player roaming dark corridors with their only weapon against the monster in the dark being their ever-dwindling light source. I loved this idea as the player would have to make some tough decisions in order to progress. Such as needing to remove a permanant light source that protects them from the monster in order to explore dark areas safely, but only for a time. In addition, I also modelled and textured a few of the assets, such as the monster, player, torches, and each of the room grids. I was also responsible for the animation of the player and monster. Finally, I also assumed the role of project manager, setting out the tasks that needed to be done for each week and assigning them accordingly. The spreadsheet used can be found here.
